Crochet Project Inspiration: Yarn Haul & What I'm Making Right Now

Lately I've been crocheting a TON and have been buying wayy too much yarn because of it. With a stacked Pinterest board, a camera-roll of screenshots, and a budget I had no intention of sticking to, it turns out I spent way too much money at Michael's- once again.

This article is paralleled with my first ever  video on my new youtube channel, MadeFromStratt.  Any links, products, and/or other creators that I mentioned in the video can be found below!

About the New Channel

I am always making something. For as long as I can remember, I have been in the midst of some sort of creative endeavor. Growing up I was just a girl that loved crafts and now, all growned up, turns out I'm still that girl.

Being creative is beyond a passion of mine. It is not only what I love doing, but is where I find the most peace in life. And I know there are others out there that are in the same boat. That is why I have created this channel and if it happens to inspire others in their creative endeavors I would be so honored!

More to come about the new channel and about my creative processes- but let's talk about the first video!

The Penguin:

Early on in the video I show off the penguin that I was in the process of making.

I followed this one pattern called Pew the Baby Penguin by Khuccay .com. This pattern is meant to make a small baby penguin and is free on the creator's website so you should definitely check it out!

However, as you may have seen, the penguin I created was much larger than the pattern calls for. That is because I used Loops & Threads' jumbo velvet yarn. I used a darker pink for the head, white for the face, and light pink for the body. I also ended up using Bernat Blanket yarn for the yellow beak. Stay tuned for an update video where you can see the finished product!

Mama Maran the Hen Pattern

When I saw this yarn at Michaels I knew immediately what I was going to make with it, a chicken.

One of my favorite crochet accounts, Crafts Go Bloom has arguably the cutest chicken pattern out there. And what's even better is that she has a video to go along with it:

Krysta, if you see this blog and/or my video, thank you for the work that you do and we should be friends! Everyone tag her in the comments haha!

Again, keep an eye out for an update video very soon where I will show you where I am at with this fuzzy chicken project I plan on tackling!

Granny Square Flower Blanket

Fun fact: the green granny square blanket that I briefly mention in the video was my first crochet project! That's right, I have been working on that sucker since May, 2023. It is funny to see the difference between the very first square the I made vs. the ones I've made recently.

Overall, if you are going to make a granny square blanket go in with the expectation that it is going to take you a year to do. That way, if you finish it before that year is up you will have exceeded your expectations for yourself! LOL just my personal experience.
Being the very first project I dove into, I definitely underestimated the amount of time and dedication it would take to finish it. I have most of the squares made already, though, so I am going to finish it soon! When I do, I will be sure to include it in my update video too!

^ This is the video I used to create these squares and the one that I am using to crochet all the squares together. I am excited to create that white border around it when it is done!

Blue Bell Car Hanging

Wouldn’t this just be so cute to hang on your rearview mirror for the summer?!

I bought yarn from loops and threads in the color light blue to make this Pinterest board dream a reality. Still haven’t found a good pattern to use to make it yet but I will update this when I do.
Do you think these would sell well at a market? I’ll keep you updated on how that goes too.

Cowgirl Hat Keychain

I love crochet, obviously, but one other thing that I love is anything in mini form. How cute?

I am using this pattern to create this teeny tiny cowgirl hat keychain. I have started it and so far it is quite tricky to do but I'm hoping I'll be able to complete it with a little practice. Honestly, can't say I recommend buying this pattern as it's not the most informative...

I have already purchased these gold keychains off of amazon to use though so I'm hoping it works out. Stay tuned for an update from me soon!

Granny Square Scarf

I filmed this video in February so at that time I wanted to make a scarf for the rest of the winter season. I am slowly learning not to start seasonal projects after the season has already started or is close to over...I did that with a Christmas blanket that I have now put away until next November as well.

You live and you learn! (Tbh I don't think I'll ever stop doing that- please tell me I'm not the only one).

When it was still winter I had seen this scarf on Pinterest that I thought was so cool. I am almost done with it now (it's basically May lol) so I'll have to save it for next winter to use I guess. If you want to see what it looks like I'll be sure to include it in my next update video as well.

Granny Square Bag

The last project that I mention in the video was this granny square bag. I was really just inspired by the color way that was used to make this! I don't have the exact same colors but I thought using light blue, orange, green, and a white color would be pretty.

I am not sure how I feel about the shape of the bag- so we'll see what shape it ends up being but, again, I just love the idea of making colorful granny squares and then joining them together with white or cream colored yarn.

Crochet By Genna

Finally, the very last creator that I mention in the video calls herself CrochetbyGenna on youtube. I am always so inspired by her videos and her creations. She mainly crochets plushies and is mostly known for her turtle pattern- for good reason!

She geeks out over making plushies and it's just so fun to support other creators that share the same passion!
